Ex-PM, 2 former aides to be summoned by MACC

The anti-graft agency is investigating them for three separate cases linked to alleged misappropriation of funds, says a source.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will summon a former prime minister and two aides in its probe into three separate cases of alleged misappropriation of funds.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity told FMT the aides were attached to two different prime ministers.

One investigation will focus on the wealth allegedly accumulated by the wife and children of one of the former top leaders, the second probe is linked to a petroleum company, and the third connected to monies spent on advertising.

“These three individuals will be called in this week,” the source said.

Earlier today, Utusan Malaysia reported that an MP from an east coast state and his aide would be called in to facilitate an investigation under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla) and the MACC Act 2009.

The daily also reported that one of the individuals had allegedly awarded projects involving public funds to certain people when he was administering the country.

The probe into the trio comes in the wake of MACC’s investigation into former finance minister Daim Zainuddin.

Daim is being investigated for alleged corruption and money laundering, and the 60-storey Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur, reportedly belonging to him and his family, has been seized in connection with the investigation.

Daim has denied any wrongdoing or corruption. He also hit out at Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and MACC for their “witch- hunt” against him and his family. - Written by Free Malaysia Today

Impossible for Dr Mahathir to be involved in the ‘Dubai Move’, says Marzuki Yahya

Former Pejuang deputy president Datuk Marzuki Yahya has strongly denied that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is involved in a movement to topple the government dubbed ‘Dubai Move’.

Marzuki explained that it was impossible for Dr Mahathir to be involved in any confidential meeting with a handful of unity government MPs and Perikatan Nasional leaders in the UAE.

The former foreign minister added that this is because Dr Mahathir has not been abroad for the past few weeks.

Marzuki said, he regrets the behaviour of certain parties in the unity government who tried to associate Dr Mahathir with the Dubai Move speculation and described it as baseless.

“As for the Dubai Move, we don’t even know about it. If the movement is related to Tun, I can guarantee it is inaccurate and is an unfounded accusation.

“Over the past few weeks, Tun M has never been abroad. The last time he was away was last week when Tun M went to Langkawi,” Marzuki told Sinar Premium yesterday, referring to Dr Mahathir.

Deputy director-general of the Community Communications Department Datuk Ismail Yusop recently claimed that there is a secret plan to topple the government of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, involving an influential veteran political figure with the title of Tun.

Commenting further, Marzuki also described the speculation that the Dubai Move was deliberately exaggerated by the unity government in order to divert the people’s attention from the various issues the current government is facing.

According to him, if the alleged plot to topple the government was really drawn up by the Opposition coalition, they would not even need to hold a meeting in a location as far away as West Asia.

“If the government wants to fall, it doesn’t need the Dubai Move, the Mamak Shop Move is sufficient if the Opposition really wants to work on it.

“I wonder why the existing government does not really focus on solving urgent issues related to the interests of the people, especially involving the increase in the cost of living.

“Is it because of excessive suspicion of the Opposition and fear of losing the prime ministership that Datuk Seri Anwar is willing to use all government machinery to create a fairy tale to suppress the Opposition?” he said. - Written by Malay Mail

Ismail Sabri denies knowledge, involvement in 'Dubai Move'

Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has denied involvement or knowledge of an alleged plot hatched in Dubai to topple Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's administration.

Speculations were rife on a purported 'Langkah Dubai' (Dubai Move) that was said to have been masterminded by opposition party leaders with help from certain representatives of the government.

Ismail Sabri described the attempt to associate himself with the movement as slander.

"I don't know whether or not there is such a move. (Because) I am not involved and I did not go to Dubai.

"I was in Mecca and Medina with my family performing umrah," the former Umno vice-president told Malaysiakini.

Right after that, he returned to Malaysia, he said.

"From Mecca, I went straight back to Kuala Lumpur on Dec 31 at around 1am. So, how am I involved with the meeting in Dubai if I am not in Dubai?"

"It (alleged involvement) is completely defamatory," he added.

On Saturday, Community Communications Department (J-Kom) deputy director general Ismail Yusop claimed that a movement was being planned to topple the coalition government.

He said the plan dubbed ‘Dubai Move’ was hatched by several Perikatan Nasional leaders while on a recent vacation to the Gulf state, where several leaders from a party in government allegedly joined them.

The meeting was held to give a specific task to the 'officer' responsible for identifying MPs who may potentially shift their support to the opposition by accepting bribes.

Ismail Sabri’s special officer, Affifi Aris, reiterated yesterday that the Bera MP boarded a direct flight to Kuala Lumpur without stopping in Dubai after safely performing the umrah as previously reported.

Affifi said this refutes the claims of some parties that Ismail Sabri was involved in the Dubai Move.

In a Facebook post, Affifi shared photographs and videos showing Ismail Sabri meeting and shaking hands with Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Umno president, after congregational prayers at Masjid Nabawi, Madinah.

Earlier this year, Ismail Sabri claimed to be the victim of a defamation attack by a party that "knows no sin" when linked to news about the 'London Move'.

He was responding to allegations about a secret meeting of several political leaders - including from Umno - in London who were allegedly organising a movement to realign the country's politics. - Written by Malaysiakini
