MCA PRAISES ANWAR FOR TRANSPARENCY, TAKES A SWIPE AT HANNAH YEOH OVER HUSBAND'S INVOLVEMENT IN SELANGOR'S DRT PROJECT

KUALA LUMPUR (politicsnowmy) - The statement by Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim that the awarding of the pilot Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) project by the Selangor state government directly to Asia Mobiliti Technologies, a company co-owned by the husband of the Youth and Sports Minister from DAP, should be investigated as usual, is not only commendable but also needs to be implemented by the authorities.

This clearly shows that the Prime Minister is very committed to fighting corruption, abuse of power, and ensuring that the government administration operates according to good governance without favouritism.

The controversy surrounding the DRT contract offer has raised many questions and created various perceptions among the people, especially supporters of the Malaysia Madani government who have given DAP a mandate based on their promises to champion transparency, justice, and efficiency through open tendering of contracts to avoid any abuse of power.

This incident also seems to provide the opposition with "ammunition" to incite public anger and undermine the credibility of the unity government. Therefore, this case needs to be addressed and explained to the people immediately and tactfully, to prove that there is no cronyism or nepotism behind the awarding of this contract, and to prevent the people from losing faith in the current government.

DAP'S DEAFENING SILENCE?

RELATED STORY: MACC sees 'no issue' in the award of contract to firm linked to Hannah Yeoh's husband

The DAP leadership, led by its Secretary-General, Anthony Loke, who is also the Minister of Transport, should accept the Prime Minister's statement openly, rather than remaining silent or passive, especially YB Hannah Yeoh who is closely related to this issue. It is emphasised that to this day, there have been no comments from the DAP leadership regarding this issue, which has already been dragging on for several days. This clearly contradicts the C.A.T. practices (Competency, Accountability & Transparency) that the DAP leadership had previously advocated for.

At the same time, MCA urges the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) not to be afraid to carry out their responsibilities. The Prime Minister has already expressed his views clearly and firmly, and MCA will stand firm with MACC to ensure this case goes through the proper process.

Just as the Prime Minister previously said regarding the 2024 World Press Freedom Index report issued by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) which showed a decline, taking steps to save the country and protect the rights of the people is more important than getting high marks for international recognition.

Therefore, we should focus on the reform initiatives and work together in driving the country forward. We should continue to advocate good governance and maintain the good image of our nation.
