IN SINISTER MOVE OR NOT - MACC RAIDS THE OFFICES OF MUHYIDDIN'S LAWYERS ON THE EVE OF PELANGAI POLL

KUALA LUMPUR (Politics Now!)
- On the eve of the Pelangai by-election, regarded as a barometer of crucial Malay support, the office of ex-prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin's lawyers was raided by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency.

12 officers carried out the raid on law firm Rosli Dahlan Saravana this morning, according to news portal  Malaysiakini.

It is not clear what could be the motive behind the move as the MACC has yet to make any announcements on it.

Raid to embarrass Muhyiddin or even more sinister than that?

Was it aimed to embarrass Muhyiddin and affect the outcome of the Pelangai by-election where his PN coalition is locked in a 3-corner fight against the Umno candidate from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's unity government and an independent contestant?

According to Malaysiakini's informant, "there are suspicions the raid is to enable MACC to have access to the files of the law firm connected to the cases mentioned above, which may then be leaked to the opposite parties."

Rosli Dahlan, who is a partner of RDS, is the lead counsel for Muhyiddin and his Bersatu party. RDS is also acting for Muhyiddin in his defamation suit against Anwar.

MACC had earlier on also tried to raid the law office of Chetan Jethwani & Co, which also acts for Muhyiddin.

The Pelangai poll in Pahahg state will be held tomorrow (October 7) and while Umno is seen as having the upper hand, the worry for Anwar is that PN's candidate from the PAS party might reignite the 'Green Wave' or Malay support for the opposition.
