OOPS! DON'T SAY WE DIDN'T WARN YOU - ANWAR FAILS TO CONQUER NEW YORK OR IMPRESS AT UNGA - HE DID NO BETTER OR WORSE THAN NAJIB, MUHYIDDIN OR ISMAIL SABRI - BUT VILE-MOUTH OR NOT, MAHATHIR STILL BEAT HIM ON THE WORLD PODIUM!
KUALA LUMPUR (Politics Now!) - In the end, Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim did no better and no worse than his predecessors at the UN General Assembly.
In fact, Anwar probably lost to nemesis Mahathir Mohamad, whose fiery anti-Western, anti-Israeli tirades used to make his more moderate countrymen cringe and worry that foreign investors might be scared off by his nightmarish comments.
Anwar, who was billed as 'best salesman' and whom world leaders were waiting eagerly to listen to, was expected to perform at UN General Assembly as no other Malaysian PM has ever managed to before.
NEW YORK NOT TAMBUN OR PORT DICKSON OR PERMATANG PAUH
Despite the foolish attempts to aggrandize himself and impress Malaysians that he could conquer New York, world leaders certainly did not lap at his every word during his maiden speech to the UNGA.
In fact, few even bothered to turn up. After all, New York is not Tambun or Port Dickson or Permatang Pauh, the constituencies that Anwar charmed and won over at home, and which helped to propel him to the PM's chair.
As his supporters rushed to praise and pat his back for a 'wonderful experience', just as many critics could not help spotting and highlighting the obvious including the glossy, insincere lip-service answers when he was grilled about having backtracked on election promises to reform the country.
If Anwar had expected a standing ovation from the UN assembly, then maybe he should sack his Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir for giving him false hopes. Yet ultimately, Anwar would have no one to blame but himself if he was foolish enough to think a seasoned if not hardened world audience that has practically seen and heard everything would even think of lifting their butts from their chairs to clap for him!

Anwar is one of the most eloquent speakers I’ve seen but here he struggles to give an answer. This question by @amanpour sure did shook the man a little.
